PPTech are proud to represent the Coke oven and By-Products technologies of DMT GmbH & Co. KG in South Africa. DMT was founded in 1990 having its roots dating back to 1864 with the establishment of Westfalische Berggewerkschaftskasse (WBK) Bochum, followed by a number of different companies in the interim period. It is an independent technology company with skills in testing, certification, consulting, planning, engineering, measuring and research and development. Its primary areas of expertise include provision of services in the fields of raw materials, safety and infrastructure, specifically in the coke making industry. Their fields of activity include mining, cokemaking, infrastructure & civil engineering, building safety, mechanical engineering and plant construction.

DMT’s specific areas of interest in cokemaking include:

  • Coal & coke evaluation;
  • Evaluation of operating plants;
  • Process engineering of plant for gas scrubbing & extraction of by-products;
  • Environmental protection and air pollution control;
  • Design of components for emission reduction.

The coke making division of DMT includes 27 engineers, 11 technicians and 4 craftsmen who are responsible for raw material services, measurements, development of compounds, engineering and implementation of solutions in the by-product plants industry.

DMT has specific experience in South Africa on the ArcelorMittal – Vanderbijlpark Works where they were involved with the basic & detail engineering, procurement and commissioning of a comprehensive by-product plant. Together with PPTech, a second reference has recently been installed at the Newcastle Works involving the supply of a Coke Oven gas liquor stripping plant whereby H2S, HCN and ammonia gases are stripped from the liquors using state of the art technologies.
